Anybody ever seen one of these deForest sets?

Chassis in a removable "cartridge." 1964 ad for deForest TV/Stereo consoles.

Amazing! Do you know what publication this was advertised in?

An "extra cartridge..." seems like that would have been pretty expensive to keep as a spare.

It's interesting that deForest predicted that television would never be commercially and financially feasible.

Sorry, seller did not inidicate the publication. It's large enough to be Life or Look or similar. "R5" at the bottom says to me that it probably is a particular regional issue

Kind of a cleaver idea, except it would be very expensive for the repair shop to stock the extra cartridges, or for the set owner to do the same. But it would make for quick easy service calls!

Setchell-Carlson & Motorola did the idea better with modules; I sure haven't heard of this one! Somebody out there, somewhere, has a "cartridge" for one of these sets sitting on a shelf...

Yeah, that HAD to be an expensive repair...

I like the bit in the ad that states "A child can do it. (Even you)"

I think that was the same period where if you needed to open a "child proof" container, you needed to give it to a child to open for you.

Never seen one... But not a bad idea. That would have been a great idea for hotel sets, business conference rooms, and for any place where they might need a quick in-'n'-out repair without bumping & banging around and having to pull the whole set out. The cost shouldn't have been too bad, as long as the replacements were rebuilts with a core charge exchange.

"Works in a drawer". My grandmother's TV had that tagline. I watched Neil Armstrong walk on the moon on that TV. Quasar?

Yes! The [bum bum bum] music brings it back. It was a big 'ol TV. Took up a whole corner of the living room. A lot of memories there. Thanks , David.

So you build a set with a replaceable chassis module, great idea, till the yoke fails...

Actually, if the yoke fails, you just keep the "cartridge" and put a new cabinet, tube, and yoke in front of it ;>)
