Very stylish whatisit?

I found this looking around the website linked in the magnafier thread. It is in an antique shop in Florida. Probably a custom piece but what is the set? Looks Admiralish to me.

What are those dealies in the panel on the bottom part? Sliding pots for brightness, etc.?

Nah, they're for summoning Exetor...That thing is REALLY the little brother to The Atavachron....(grin) Natalie went to all that trouble to make these special, Whoop-Dee-Do hi-style Muy Expensivo TeeVees...Yet stuck rather pedestrian B&W sets in 'em...Why didn't she do something REALLY Outre', & put color sets in 'em ?!? That would have made sense, too, given her "Technicolor" connections, & supposedly "Leading-Edge" sense of style...Or...Thinking out loud here...Whaddabout a bigazz 24" or 27" main CRT, coupled w/2 or 3 8" smaller ones, to watch the other networks on ? Can you imagine the HEAT a contraption woulda put out ? Woulda kept yer local TeeVee shop owner happy, makin' service calls all the time to it....(grin)

Looks kind of like some homebrew, maybe an artists concoction? The cabinet does not look like it was mass produced. It is too far away from me to check it out.

Yeah it does to me too. Looks like that panel on the lower left is just for show.
Still and all, pretty cool.

Isn't that panel the speaker? If you look at all the pictures of that set there is no other place for it to be.

Ah, good point. Not a big fan of up facing speakers though - bad acoustics.

Up-facing speakers are efficient dust catchers, too.

Wish I could see the house this custom cabinet came from. The owner had a strong sense of style and the money to indulge it.

What would you call that kind of finish -- "black blonde?"

I did some searching on the suspected designer one James Mont. A very interesting guy. Some dark sides to him. This article has no photos but is a good read. And a note about how this light grain on black may have been done and of his use of gold leaf, but no mention of custom tv sets.

Some photos here with a shorter article.

And we thought Natalie was a character.

I think its majorly cool. If I had $1800 I didn't know what to do with, I'd rent a truck and go get it.

BTW, the attached pic, they were asking into the 5 figures for it. Its a Kuda, German, I think. Sorry for the crummy pic. I screwed it up getting it to size to post. I guess I really need to figure out how to do the link thing to shutterfly.
