First thread

Greetings, Very nice site here!

I have an old GE radio that was handed down to me and I've had it for years. It's all tube, about 4 feet tall solid wood cabinet with inlays and short wave bands. The tuner inside says A 66. In my uneducated opinion it looks to be from the '40s.

Do any of you know anything about this machine? I was thinking about renovating it.

BTW, it still works!

Thanks!

Actually, that one is from around '35-'36. GE's from that era usually are very solid, well performing radios when working properly.

Concerning your radio, you really don't want to use it until it's old capacitors have been replaced and any other potential problems fixed. Even though the radio plays, new caps will likely make it play better and greatly reduce the risk of something burning up due to a sudden failure of one of the old caps.

Wow... I only turn it on about once a year just long enough to tune something in and see if it still works. But I will do some study up and change out those caps.

Thanks for the info. I'm delighted!

Once you get the caps squared away, it would prolly be better if you "Exercised" it more often...Like once a month, anyhow...
