Mc2533 or ctc-9 or plain crazy? - Videokarma.org TV - Video

I am in the process of getting a motorhome, I want to put a roundie in it but not sure how much OTR vibration something that old can withstand. I dont plan to go route 66 anytime soon maybe around 200 miles tops. Better off with a SS or would either of these (ctc 9 or MC2533) work as well? It has 25 ft of unused space i could even put one of my Maggie home theaters in there or the Philco combo of Dwights

A tube set with a "sideways" chassis like my CTC-11 might not be the best choice. The tubes stick in parallel to the ground and could eventually jiggle out if they're at all loose in the sockets.

Just my $0.02.

LOL i was thinking that too, but most have tv's anyway so why not a roundie console? ya never thought about the side mounted chassis on the CtC 9 I would have to create mounting plate locks for the Zenith legs tho.

I wouldn't advise it. These early color sets weren't made for "portable" use. Probably a newer solid state TV is a better choice. Besides the risk of damage and of tubes popping loose, you'd play havoc with keeping good purity on a round-screen color set. I don't think it's a good idea. Just my thoughts.

yes that kind of sucks I would have to do a tune up at every campsite, I could use my colortrak 2000 its a good tv but not sure how well it would take vibration either.

If I were travling the country and visiting campsites in an RV, the last thing I would be concerned with is watching television. Are you even sure you would get a decent signal at a campsite? But hey, this is America.

I imagine it's a rather heavy set so it shouldn't be too hard to isolate it from vibration. You'd probably be doing a lot of degaussing though.

I guess you could show it off to a lot of people that way.

If you decide to risk it let us know the results.

LOl let me explain, we live on a 350 acres with half of that woods and prairie,I am single but my two kids work very hard around here and never get much TV if any at all. So most the time it would be parked in our woods so no TV signal anyway thanks to DTV.
Mostly xbox360 and vintage DVD/VCR tv shows from a player. As far as on the road that would be the only choice. I think we are likely to go to Lake Michigan campsites so at night we would probably like to have a tv.believe it or not sometimes i get tired of nature LOL them Coyotes get to me after a while.

And to add Johns idea about showing it off my 15 year old son hated roundies, until his friends said "hey those are cool", he now is learning about repairing them he has worked on LCD's/plasma but now prefers you guessed it, vintage sets. He says them are Frankenstein TVs they are awesome.So he asked for a roundie or vintage set for the RV.

Wouldn't your purity get all screwed up on the roundie? Remember when Phil moved his '11 just from one side of his house to the other, he had to degauss it.

That seems to be the consensus, So I think i am going to have to explain it to my son he will have to make due with a SS 70's or 80's I think.

Zenith always had ground problems with their ground lugs coming unsolded from the chassis tabs. Also, older thermistor/varistor combos used in early degauss can get real fragile and fall apart causing power supply problems.
Maggies have fragile circuit boards.
Solid state, non modular sets are good for traveling. I loan a Funai out when I service some customers sets and it has a good many miles on it without problems. Not to mention I picked it up on the side of the road and it didn't even need repair!

While having a "Portable" Roundie is an Uber-Kewl idea, but for all the reasons mentioned above, I just don't think its too practical. And you gotta ask yrself-Do I REALLY wanna risk boogering up a good one ? TVs, especially roundies, have their most fragile parts stuck out behind them, & even if covered w/the "cup", a nice jolt could cause it to crash into the side of yr motorhome, wrecking a semi-irreplacable CRT, & maybe making a nice "ventilation hole" in the side of the motorhome. We DON'T need to read about you jumpin' off a bridge somewhere after yr roundie & yr motorhome got ruined...(grin)

Why not a B&W set? Plenty of those that are tube-powered and much more stable than a roundie. If you want color, add a color wheel converter. Now THAT would attract attention!

You sir have either discovered a very rare Funai, or are a liar.

You might wanna quit loaning out that Funai... a working Funai CRT set will soon become more rare then a working CT-100!
