Philco 39-40

I'll be picking u one of these restored beatuies shortly!! Very excited my first vintage radio How well do these actually work? And how much should I expect it to weigh??

39 -40 . What other info on the set . There was not a 39-40. In 38 and 39 philco discontinued a lot of sets . there was a 40xx. Lot of 40,s models .

As far as I know it's a 39-40xx

That should be a console model - and should weigh around 40 pounds or so.

yup it's a console model...any idea on perforance its been restored...

I had a Philco console many years ago that had a chassis full of loctal tubes. It was a decent performer on both AM std bdcst and SW bands. The console had the "slicer" changer and its optical-type arm pickup. Neither could be made to work with what resources I had at hand as a kid, but the radio worked fine. After all this time I couldn't tell you what the model # was, but you may find similar results if the radio is properly restored.

It will have AM & possibly a bit of the shortwave spectrum, but it prolly WON'T have FM on it- If it does, it will be between 40-48 MhZ, which was the prewar FM band, up til '48 or so. Once you have the set "Gone thru", have the caps & certain resistors replaced, tubes checked, it should give good service for a long time.

That model will get AM and shortwave 5-18mc, no FM. Philcos didn't have FM until '42.

correct no FM but AM and shortwave...already all gone through with new caps etc etc...cant wait to try her out

Good luck. I have a 39-30 that needs to have all the old, rotting rubber wire insulation replaced It's nice to look at in the meantime at least.
