New Telefunken Opus 6 owner

Posted this over on the main site before I remembered we had a radio forum. Got a Telefunken Opus 6 from a thrift store for $25.

Other than wear to the top of the case it's in pretty great shape, physically. Big, fancy monster of a table radio. I'm going to recap the thing before trying to power it up.

I know there are some hardcore Telefunken guys here. I've Googled all the info I can think of, but was just curious to hear some personal accounts of working on these things.

Pics to followi.

That is a great sounding radio. I think this may have either piezoelectric or electrostatic tweeters? The 6AQ8 in the Fm front ends almost always go bad causing weak or no high band FM (usually above 102mhz)

Some early models also use a bridge rectifier that looks like a filter can! When I first worked on one it took me a minute to realize it was actually a rectifier and not a doubler cap.

Again, really great sound when working properly.
