Sorry to nitpick, but a mirror lid =/= a projection set.

If I werent engaged to my Fiance I'd grab that in a heartbeat! I've been collecting stuff since I was in high school and after moving around a bit stuff was put into storage. Now 10 years later Im bringing stuff out of storage and its causing quite a shock when its all coming into the apartment!

Has anyone ever seen the entertainment center version of the Sparton? I have just seen the small console version. Never this one.

I think Chuck A may have this version of the Sparton mirror in lid sets. This set has been up on the Portland CL before. I guess there were no takers at that time.

Chuck A will probably chime in with a link to his. I have also been lucky enough to acquire both versions. The model 4900 is the TV/Radio/Phono combo and the 4940 is the TV only. The 4900 has a 12" CRT while the 2940 has a 10". I keep the 4900 Entertainment Center version in my office at work and use the FM radio regularly. It is quite a conversation piece when visitors come. Most have never even heard of, much less seen, a mirror in lid set.

Since this set uses a 10BP4, why must it be a mirror in lid? The 10BP4 was used in many direct view sets. I thought the whole reason behind the mirror in lid design was because CRT necks used to be very long. The 10BP4 neck is not that long. Just wondering.

It likely has a mirror because it would be a PIA to have to stand and watch it. Besides, if it's set up for a mirror, the picture would be backwards when viewed directly.

The question is, why not just mount the crt facing forward? That looks like a fairly deep cabinet, so I don't understand, either.
I plan on building a mirror-in-lid set someday by mounting a 10" or 12" chassis upright in a smallish console radio cabinet I have. It has the controls under a lid on top. I don't think it will take much effort to make a neat Frankenset out of this. Someday, that's the word.

That has got to be a rare set right? It appears that it still hasn't sold!
