Good luck. I have a 50-T1401 and 50-T1402. I haven't restored them yet, but I've heard they perform quite well.

I bought another 1950 philco a few months ago but have not looked at it yet. I did test the CRT and tests like new. This one looks to be in better shape. For $20 you cant go wrong.

I went and looked at the Philco today. I pulled up to the house and what a dump! Dead grass, weeds, peeling paint, glass in the garage door replaced by card board. I rang the bell and the guy came to the door. What an odor coming from within! Luckily it was in the garage. He opened the garage for me to look at the set. From a distance, not too bad. A closer look revealed a broken volume/on/off control.Very scratched up top I looked at the back and it's missing the cover. I thought one could be found somewhere until I noticed duct tape on the neck of the tube. naturally I started peeling it away to check the CRT. As I started peeling it away he told me it's there to cover up the glass. I asked him it if was broken and he said yes. I was afraid of that especially when the back cover was missing. Needless to say I told him It's not worth much and I left. I wish I would of asked him that on the phone first and saved some fuel. There are many more out there..

BTW, I looked at a 1950 Ge set yesterday. The lady told me it was in great condition. When I looked at it it was pretty bad. The whole wood cabinet was pretty bad. Looks like it went through a flood. Rusty back cover. I did not see the chassis. She told me she found one on Ebay for $900 but would take $100 minimum. I told her I would think about it and let her know. I'll probably pass on that one too. Money is too scarce these days.

10$ max, on real beaters like that I just look at it as possible parts sets, and even then the parts can be bad. I did that recently and the guy got all indignant on me. I just politly explained that given the condition and the unknown working status, there is no way to offer more. I informed them that TV collectors don't make money on these old sets and tried to be as honest as I could (it was not by any means "collectable"). I dont take it personally when they get upset I just thank them and leave. Honestly 10$ would be a gift, as its not going to be shipped, so it left to any local tv guys, and if they are not around, then it has to be picked up, moved and tossed on the side of the street or taken to the dump if the garbage pickup will not take.

Yeah, people 'round here think if it has Tooobs, its OLD, & therefore worth oodles & oodles of Money...They do get huffy if you try to explain to them that tube radios were made up til almost 1970 or so, & tube TVs were arguably in production til '80..., & that no, the greasy AA5 that sat atop Mamaw's Kelvinator fridge is NOT really "Rare 'n' Desirable"...An Admiral 19A11 is desirable, but they AREN'T rare...
