Philco chair side radio model 38-15

Hi all,

I purchased a Philco model # 38-15 (code 124) radio and I'm looking for a schematic. Also did this model have a loop antenna? I see two wires coming from the chassis, but only one was connected to what looks like 20ft of wire

Mine has a red speaker cloth, which looks ok, but I doubt it is the orginal type material. What would the orginal fabric look like?

Thanks for your help!

Check here for the schematics:

Loops weren't real common yet in '38, from what I've seen. I suspect the original grille cloth would have been similiar to the rest of the '38 Philco line, more of a tan/brown color with some sort of pattern. Go here:

and look under components, then grille cloth.
Great set, best of luck with it!

Nice score! I'm pretty sure it had the ribbed fabric used on most late 30s Philcos too. #55 at Radiodaze.

Check out this picture from philcoradio.com.

Unfortunately, reproduction grille cloth is no longer being manufactured and supplies are drying up fast

Loop can't be used with this set, as Bryan noted. It should do OK with 10 or 15 feet of wire run around the baseboard of the room.

I replaced all the paper and filter caps..works like a champ now! Thanks for the help. This site is the best!! Amzing how much smaller the new filter caps are compared to the orginals.
