Putting China made Caps to the test!
I have been a Sprague fan for years.. But, I ordered some caps from Capacitor World yesterday. The guy was nice on the phone, and seemed to have it together.. Received shipping confirmation this morning. When they arrive, I plan on installing them in an old workhorse Admiral b/w combo and running it every day for a few weeks to see how they hold up. I plan on posting pictures and updates on the forum.
If anyone is in the Macomb Michigan area, (and maybe has a Sencore LC102 or equivalent!) you are welcome to stop by, and inspect the caps when they arrive, and when they are installed operating in the set. Let's put them to test, and see what they can do compared to the tried and true Sprague Orange Drops and Atom 'Lytics! |

I've been curious about those caps, the price is sure right.
I'd be less concerned about the Film caps than the Electrolytics. Do they have long leads on them or are they short PC mount style? I don't think they even make Orange Drops or Atoms anymore do they? |

Eric, once I get the caps, I will take pictures. As far as the Sprague caps, my remaining stock is from the 1995-2007 era.. Have not bought any lately. I think Doug told me Sprague was bought out recently?

You could probably ask the seller here on the forum about where his caps are from, the brand, the lead length and other specifications.
He posts here under the name technicolor. He's the guy that goes nuts for 1980's color consoles. . |

I've been buying caps from him for the last couple months. No problems at all, and he ships a hell of a lot faster than any other company. I order all my stock caps and filters from him, the specialty stuff I still use Mouser.

The Caps arrived quickly, everything there, just as ordered. There were several brands, Nichicon, Nippon Chemcon, Ltec, and Samwha.
All 'lytics tested spot on for value and ESR. Next step, installing them into the Admiral.. |

I put the caps in the Admiral.. Like Tim said previously, no problems! I will let it run every day for the week and see how it holds up.

Day two, caps are still working like a champ. However, I am getting a little worn out on 12" black and white tv.. I think I will switch it to the radio for a while..!

Unrelated to this post, I just placed another order with Capacitor World today. Surprised to see that they stock an 82 uF value, which I need to recap a reverb amp on my RCA Stereo Orthophonic console.

The Admiral has been running all week now with the replacement caps, and no problems. (ESR is still the same on the 'Lytics) I know this is not an official test, but at least I feel satisfied that with my occasional use of the Combo, they should hold up fine.
