Scored the ETF CT-100

I got the CT-100 the ETF was offering for sale. I've wanted one of
these for almost exactly 60 years, since I was on-camera for the
first color broadcast in Texas, in the studio audience. It'll be a while
before I am able to pick it up since schedules don't meet too well.

Steve hasn't said whether the set has been recapped, but it clearly
has been loved.

Happy for you! Good to know that another of these precious gems will have a good home.

It has had a loving owner all these decades, as indicated by the way the ETF got it (gift from an estate ... the money I pay goes to the ETF.) McVoy has looked at
the bottom and its not recapped, at least not mostly. Mouser has every single
electrolytic or film cap needed, except one HV film cap I luckily have left
over from the recent Emerson 7" electrostatic recap, and a 1000 uF 6 volt
nonpolar that McVoy says never goes bad, and for which I also, amazingly,
have two 2000 uF 25 volt ones that will work (back to back).

This affair will take time and more time.

I did notice one thing ... the RCA manual gives the tolerances for most
electrolytics as -10 +20, +50, +100, or +250%. Since modern electrolytics
are +-20%, I bought larger value ones so their value lies within
the specified range. A look at the schematic shows why the RCA engineers
picked the + tolerance they did. For the films I ordered +-5%, for pennies more.

That sounds like a nice old TV set.

I found these for you on Pinterest to help you get started.

Be careful with it though, I heard these old TVs are full of x-rays, radioactive stuff and lead. Dangerous stuff! Good luck with your project!

Congratulations on your "new" CT-100. And welcome to the club. Was your appearance on Texas' 1st color telecast on WBAP-TV Ft.Worth-Dallas? Here is WBAP's first color logo:
