Mystery Set
I know a few companies made 630TCS clones, but has any one ever seen this one?
![]() ![]() The speaker grill looks very much like the pre-war Marconi or HMV consoles. ![]() ![]() This has got to be home made right? The decorative leg hidden on the inside of the back makes no sense. I found the pictures here http://www.indianamuseum.org/browse

Probably a 630 clone kit chassis, in a cabinet that someone built around a defunct 1920's console radio.

I agree, definitely a home-made cabinet around the remnants of an old piece of furniture. I heard the 630 chassis was available in kit form as late as 1949. For what it is, I think it's an interesting period piece.
This was the only 630 TV-only console made. The rare, but surprisingly not very sought-after 630TCS: http://www.tvhistory.tv/1946-RCA-630TCS-10in.JPG Last edited by decojoe67; 02-19-2015 at 09:53 AM. |

Ive seen advertisements for "630 type" chassis as late as the mid 50s, some outfits sold them with kits to run tubes up to at least 21". this one is probably late 40s, since the screen is tiny.

Interesting! Amazing how long that chassis was still desirable with all the changes in TV's by the late '50's. It was the "Model-T" of TV chassis' for sure!

The 630TS is really one of the best (perhaps best?) performing B&W designs. At least when it comes to video bandwidth and picture stability. Sound is lacking a bit though.

It was sort of like that Zenith monochrome chassis that came out in the late 50's, and was made until the late 60's early 70's.

The 630 had separated audio and video, and was proabably easy to work on, designed before lots of shortcuts and cost reductions were made to TV designs. The later kits sets often had some more modern improvements like ACG, so they wernt really 1940s designs anymore. A lot of the kits were probably bought by servicemen, or for trade school use.

Yes, old cabinet for a radio or phonograph. RCA 630 TS chassis in kit form. Common into about 1960, a good old classic B&W TV Chassis.
