Well aside from the Cataract The chassis is working fairly well. Now the CRT isn't great. Green and blue are down. If I could find a better one I'd install it. I don't know if I should fix the Cataract or just replace the tube. I had good luck with my Sencore Big Mack and the tube came back fair. My Beltron just couldn't do it. Same with my B&K 467 was the same. The tube is a 21FJP22. If I could just find one reasonable price I'd do it DSC05281.jpg

I vote save the tube and fix the cataract. That is a nice picture, even if it is a little dim. The question you have to ask, is: Is the picture so dim that you hate watching it. Also, what is a reasonable price to you? I have seen FJ's go for $200 or more...

That appears it would be an easy cataract fix. Maybe that alone will change any perceived CRT weakness but it looks good from here.

Hi Tom,

Have to agree with Dave, that the cataract is so far along that the safety glass may pop off without much struggle(easy for me to say ) I think most FJP tubes you find at this point are going to have similar cataracts. I guess another option would be a 21FBP22(non bonded external safety glass). But you'll probably have to harvest one from a less desirable set, which is easier said than done.

I recommend trying to fix the cataract, and save the CRT! That tube still has usable life in it. I'd like to see a brighter picture showing the cabinet it's in! :-)

The picture looks pretty good and you're going to have to remove the cataract anyway.
If you do find another CRT, you can use that one in a less desirable set.
I have a Sencore Big Mack that I bought at a swap meet. The main reason I bought it is that is the only checker, I own that tests the GE Porta-Color CRT's and had most of the sockets. I never used the rejuvenate function.

from the looks of the whites in the pic I would say that the CRT looks pretty darn good. removal of that lens should be pretty easy as others have stated based on the degree of degradation of the PVA or what ever the plastic is.

I wonder if it's the original or replacement CRT?

My guess would be that it's a replacement. I'm pretty sure that all CTC-11's originally came with 21FB's since they have the separate safety glass. Mine has its original 21FBP22.

Some CTC 11's had a separate safety glass and others did not. I Have one with the 21fbp22 CRT and another with the 21fjp22 CRT. The 11 does have a really good picture.

My RCA field service guide states that CTC-11's could have come with one of three types of CRT, including CYP, FBP, or FJP. But there's no elaboration as to rhyme or reason.

I THINK...the first run of them had a CYP...then they went to an FB/JP tube.

I remember seeing that notation!
It must've been the real early production set that used the CYP. I've never seen one.
Tom S. would have to look inside to see if there is a serial number tag on the CRT matching the chassis tag.
Either that, or the CRT is a replacement.

That type of tube is not difficult to fix the cataract problem, in these days I am working to a 21FJP22 of a Zenith tv set.

Brightened up the screen shot to see the cabinet a bit better. Hopefully Tom will post a photo of the cabinet.
