Pilot tv and 1.5 inch crt

Hey all , has anyone ever attempted putting a D5-100W black and white electrostatic crt in a pilot tv. The heater voltage for this crt is 0.55 so that would have to be right because it wouldn't take much to burn that heater out. And I know the high voltage would have to be lowered which is not a problem but the plate drives I don't know if they would be compatible with that tube or if it would be able to be adjusted. I would be nice to get it to work instead of the dreaded green tube and there are no 3kp4 tubes around anymore. A different mask in the front can be fitted for that tube even though the tube is only 1.5 inch instead of under 3 inch for the right tube. I took a quick look at the vert and horiz specs for both and the 3kp4 numbers are higher and the other crt IIRC is 50-60 volts less.

The lower the HV the more effective a given amount of deflection is, thus to keep overscan constant deflection has to drop with HV.

Well I don't think it's going to work . I wired the tube up and powered up and got an out of focused picture really could not make anything out. Then the tube went dark then came back several times and I don't know why. The focus voltage should have been plenty for such a small tube since it's enough for a 3kp1 tube so I don't know. It appeared that all the controls worked good, horz, vert, all within where it should be except for the focus and clearity. I thought the cathode might be part of the problem since the heater is wired to the cathode in this tube but I was using a separate supply for the heater so it should not have had any affect, at least I think. The heater supply I'm using is ac so I don't know if that's got anything to do with it or why the screen was there then gone then came back . Should the heater be DC. Any hints......

The winking on and off sounds to me like a tube element is not connected and is charging... Have you connected everything? including A1,A2 and interplate shield?

Focus isn't just about being "this tall to ride" too much focus voltage looks about the same as not enough.

I'm wondering if the focus voltage is to high would it cutoff the tube from working or even the other voltages.

I looked at the datasheet for both the 3kp1 and the d5-100w and the 3k has 4 of the grids but the d5 only has 3 so I'm at a loss as to why it won't work. I was playing with some resistors and managed to get a picture but it's out of focus and the pot is maxed . I even lowered the hv to the point of the pic disappearing so it may not be to much hv. I hooked this up exactly from the 3k to the d5 so It should work but if I take off g1 the screen lights up, so it's like voltage is cutting off the tube somehow. I even swapped g1 with G3 didn't help. The d5 has a jumper on pin 10 and 13 but when I put a jumper from G3 to that jumper on 10 and 13 again it lights up but it's to far out of focus. With resistors I can get it to a point of seeing what's being played but it's still out of focus. But I will say that the verticle and horizontal and size and linearity all respond the way they should I just can't get a clear pic.

Ok so the focus voltage was to high to focus and g1 for some reason was cutting the tube off so I used a 1 meg resistor. So the 1meg used voltage to add from the focus circuit to g1 keep the tube on and clear up the focus which was to high. So now I have a clear pic but it's far from right. After being on for a few minutes the hv stop producing and don't know why. Obviously the tube is pretty much not compatible with the pilot tv.

Well, Zhit.... Was hoping it would all work out together...Ahh, my Pilot has a good Greenie-Weenie CRT, I DON'T play it much, but it still is fun to play it for Millennials, & laugh as they pick their jaws off the floor, like I've expounded before..

I think even a p11 tube would be better then the p1 green , as it seems the blue is Alittle easier on the eyes.
