Garod Tv Found
I managed to pick up another 1949 Canadian Garod Tv. This has a 12LP4 that checks ok. The finish needs to be redone as it is flaking badly. There is also a dark piece of plastic in front of the crt and behind the glass. ( I'm assuming this was for better contrast in a sunny room ?) It is warped and will be removed. Sadly,.. the back is missing. It also has the Tele-Zoom remote control, which is a bonus as these often go missing. It is also extremely heavy.

Examining the underside of this set, shows a burned Horizontal Linearity Control coil. L25 is marked 34 ohms and Garod part number B-1.459 There are no other replacement coils listed. Would anyone that is familiar with this set have any information as to a substitute part that should work ?
The Sams manual can be found here. It is shown on page 23 of the PDF, or page 19 of the Sams itself. https://www.earlytelevision.org/pdf/...sams_60-12.pdf Thanks Tony |

Considering it's a fairly generic RCA circuit something like an RCA 71449 or Thordarson WC-14 should work OK. Really anything with about 5-20mh adjustment that will mount the same. Reason it's toasted is likely C98 is leaky. B+boost voltage is across that cap to ground.

Thanks for the additional info Kevin. I did contact Tim via pm on the antique radio forum and he was able to look up some coils in his Thordarson replacement catalog. He said that a Merit WMC-12 is a sub for the Garod B-1.459 which is good to know. Also, a Thordarson WC-14 may work, (which is what you confirm also) The 5-20 mh is some additional info I did not have.

Ok, I have a question about particular replacement coils. I found a cross reference on-line for Merit to Miller coils. If a Merit MWC-12 is a replacement for the Garod coil from (2-20 mh). The Miller shown here, as a cross is a 6315 (4-30 mh). Although not listed as a cross reference, the Miller 6314 (2-18 mh) is a cross for a Merit MWC-14. Would the Miller 6314 work, in this application, (is 2-18 mh enough adjustment) ? This is just giving me more options, as far as getting a coil. As there doesn't seem to be a whole lot on E-Bay right now. I did contact Moyer, but haven't heard back. I haven't seen an RCA 71449. Also, I'm in Canada, so shipping is the determining factor. A lot of places won't ship here, or if they do, it is too pricey.
