Sears B&W s.s. Schematic Needed
I have a sears solid-state black and white 7 inch TV which is part of a radio display at our local fair. The sound is very very faint.
Schematic is needed for a sears 562-50200100 I'm sure it was manufactured by Toshiba. I would like to get it going for the display it has a very good picture and we're demonstrating it with a digital converter box. ( There is no static between channels so I'm sure the converter box is fine, it's the TV where the issue lies) Thanks in advance for any help. |

I don't see that anywhere on the internet either. A couple of ideas:
-there might be a schematic on the inside of the case. I have discovered service information on a sticker inside the set on many units from that time period. it's worth a check - it's a pretty simple black and white set. you might be able to work it out without the schematic. from the mid 1970s, chances are you have a ton of bad or weak caps inside. you probably have some cold solder joints and/or dirty pots/connectors. If you can do so safely and you know how to work on electronics with lethal voltages on them, just go over the set and see how it goes. Remove and replace any caps that test too low or have high ESR, reflow the solder, use contact cleaner on contacts and fader cleaner on all the faders. This is almost certainly a hot chassis, which means there are mains level voltages present on the set when plugged in, so you would need an isolation transformer to do any troubleshooting with the set on. |

This is definitely not a hot chassis set. This is solid-state with a funky plug battery operated as an option with an internal battery compartment. I used to be in the business so I'm not worried about shock hazard for me. I was hoping to be equipped with a schematic instead of operating by dead reckoning by types of components. The rest of the set seems to work perfectly so I will head to our site tomorrow with a kit of capacitors hoping it's just something simple in the audio circuit. I'm also gonna take germanium diode with me just in case there's some kind of a take off for the sound that use such a critter. The layout is rather cramped and I was hoping not to take it apart very much to survey the landscape. Having a schematic would certainly make it easier at least with some test points. We'll see what tomorrow brings thanks for looking.

Sams Photofacts does list that number, but the index actually says "bad photocopy" available.

OP- If it's just the sound that's a problem, start by trying to find where it disappears in the signal chain. It might be happening at the volume potentiometer, or at the base of a transistor etc. Might not be the worst thing in the world to trace. |
