How much have you paid for your set?
What's the MOST you guys have ever shelled out for a cool set?and on the OTHER end of the spectrum,what's the LEAST you've ever had to pay for a set?mine cost me $1 (and it works!) but i tipped the guy 9 bux. just curious as to how much you guys pay for your hobby (make me feel better for spendin money on it!thanks!

I spent $500.00 including shipping for the G2000 that I eventually traded to Tim.
The cheapest was the CTC 5 I found in the trash last October.

50 for my Andrea CVL-16. I paid an average of about 25 for the majority of the sets at my current location. All of my color sets and a few of the BW sets were curb finds, as in... free.

Most is about a grand more or less, that I have invested in my one CT100
Least would be the mint 8TS30 I found curbside about 4 years ago.....sold that long ago though :sad:

Well with shipping I spent something over $1300 for an RCA 621ts.
 Back in the day when you could still find such things in the wild (10+ years ago) I got a 721ts at the swap meet for $20 and a 49 Olympic for $10 at the thrift store.

The most I paid was $5. This was 25 years ago and I paid that at a thrift store for an Admiral bakelite consolette. There was a larger Admiral with it there, as I recall it had a wood cabinet with the "X" shape wood treatment in front of the speaker fabric--a little newer than the consolette. That one was also $5 and a friend took that one. My consolette sat in an attic until last fall when I came up with a use for it and I contacted a local guy who could recap and do whatever else was necessary to get it going again (my electronic expertise doesn't go much beyond changing out tubes). That set me back $100. So ultimately it cost me $105. It's in a guest room with other old stuff and maybe gets watched a couple of hours a week at most.
The least I've paid is $0. The first TV my family ever owned was a Capehart model 325F, exactly like the one Eric H links you to on the swap board here, and the cabinet is in perfect shape. I bought a new CRT for that one back in the early 70's but can't remember what I paid for it. The set still needed more work as the top of the picture was all stretched out and the bottom compressed, so I forgot about it. A friend said he knew a guy who might be able to fix it so I let him take the chasis and when it came back it was missing the on/off "sound" knob and the channel knob. So it has sat ever since. Maybe it's a good thing. If I ever find the knobs, I think it's going to cost a lot more than $100 to bring this one back to watchable, it's a lot bigger than the Admiral and weighs a ton, so will be harder to find a place in the house to put it.

Other than an unbuilt Heathkit GR2000 (actually the Bell & Howell version) which I got for the bargain ePay price of some $300 including S&H I haven't paid anything for any of my other sets.

I'm afraid to tell you guys!
I'm not sure that I want you guys to know the most I ever paid for a set... ya'll would think i was crazy! In fact, I know I was crazy! About 8 years ago, I paid 400 bucks for my Sentinel 7 inch set at an antique mall in Houston. Keep in mind... this was back before the internet, before ebay, and before I had enough sense to know the value of these things. The set worked, I had the money, so I took it home. I've never spent that much on any other, although I did throw in an 800 dollar bid on a Motorola 19" color roundie several months back. Got beat by one bid. Probably for the best.
On the other side of the coin, most of my sets were freebies. Many came from the old tv shop in town, many came from other people. I've given money for some of them, but nothing as crazy as the Sentinel. Current location: San Francisco, California Next stop: L.A., California
