I can't find a model number one it but it uses tubes: 12S07,50L6,12S.17,12SA7,3575 and the caps I see are 2 of .02 MFD 400VDC,2 of .o5 and .005 600. That big cap (my guess is a cap) has 4 wires Red 20 MFD,Green 20 MFD,Blue 20MFD,black com but it's really hard to read and I'm not sure. Would the model# be on the speaker?

More likely the model number would be on a paper tag that is now long gone. Looking at those caps it seems pretty clear where the burnt electronics smell came from, and at least it's a pretty simple circuit and you can see the values, so it shouldn't be too hard a fix. For that big cap you may have to replace it with multiple smaller ones, unless somebody knows of a source for multi-sections of a similar structure and value. No biggie either way, since it's hidden under the chassis.

You might be able to find some sort of date code on the speaker if you post the number, at least know how old it is. I'd suspect pre-war, but early '40s.

Donny: Tubes types are 12SA7, 50L6, 12SA7, 12SQ7 and 35Z5...your typical "All American Five" line up. The big cap you describe is the filter capacitor and you'd be wise to change it out before powering up. Three individual 22mfd @450 volts would be
the correct modern replacement. Deep six those other paper caps while you're at it.

Looks like a nice little radio!

Should be pretty easy changing those caps out. just remember to pull them out one by one to avoid the little mix-up we had with your Philco.

the number on the speaker is ASPI 27045. I've already got started on the wood,the dark spots in the pic is some sort of grease,once I cleaned that off the finish is in bad shape so I'm hitting it with some lacquer. I'll prob pic me up some caps next week,since I don't have a tube tester all I can really do is replace the caps.

I bought some caps but I'm not sure on some of them,see they didn't have anything very close to the .05 and I figure 2 of .03 is the closest,so thats what I got. Would running 2 .03's in parellel work? If not then I will have to order caps or just leave the current .05's in the radio. Oh and just to make sure the side of a cap marked with a line is neg aka common right? and that would be the same on the old and on the new caps?

THis sort of radio, known as an "All American Five" AA5, used pretty much the same schematic. I have such a schematic at my page http://www.geocities.com/wa2ise/ and scroll about halfway down. One diagram shows the octal tubes yours uses.

A 0.02 and 0.03uF cap in parallel will work fine for a 0.05uF. These caps are not at all that critical in value.

I don't have enough .02s they only had 2

so I have 4 .03 to use inplace of 2 .05, infact every cap I got is just a bit higher then what was in the radio but I think it's close enough cept for running parallel .03 = .06 instead of .05 and you know how it is I just wanna cap it right now haha it's hard to wait and it's the first one I'm doing myself so I don't know if I can make that big of a jump. Thx for the schematic.

Anything between 80% and 200% of the original value cap will work fine. Also anything of higher voltage rating will be fine as well.

I like you windows warning "Must replace all wax capacitors"! I think I might have found the burnt smell,I have a resistor showing OL it only has 2 strips a black at one end and a blue in the middle.
