Found a CTC-27
I Found a CTC-27 in a 19" metal tabletop laying face down beside the road!
Looks pretty good except for a few little scratches on the tube face, the tube is pretty weak anyway so no big loss there. It powers up and gets a fuzzy but full raster and looks like it would tune a picture if I hooked an antenna to it. I think this may have been a Motel set at one time because it has a plate covering up all the rear controls. Pics will follow later, I don't want this thing so if someone is interested in all or part let me know. The bad CRT could be removed for shipping. Eric |

Great find! Those RCA table sets are great. Look forward to seeing it all fixed up. Another 27 saved! Hardly any of those left Id say, especially a hotel set

Hi Doug,
I was initially thinking about parting it out or giving it away but I might tinker with it a bit more first and see how well I can get it to work. The tube would be useable with a brightener, though it has a chip in the screen from being dumped face down in the dirt. Sheesh, I just realized I posted this in the wrong Forum, could you please move it to the Rectangular/SS forum?

Well I took this set to work today and tore it completely apart.
When they dropped it on it's face it did a few bad things, 1: it chipped the face of the CRT, not a big deal one minor chip, I can live with it. 2: it broke the plastic mounting lugs on one corner of the bezel, again not a big deal, I epoxied it and will install longer screws that will go in past the break and be just fine. 3: it broke off a big chunk of the Ferrite in the yoke, I have no idea what this might do? the set has a full raster but I couldn't tell if it was distorted or not. I basically just cleaned everything up, washed the cabinet and other non-electrical parts in the parts washer. The cabinets not too bad, the top is faded and scratched a bit, lots of dirt and spider webs/eggs, this set had sat outside for awhile before it was dumped. It'll never be a 10 but it might clean up enough to be a 6 or 7. Before tearing it apart I powered it up again, it had a raster and I was able to tune a channel using just my finger as an antenna, it was way out of focus, probably because the focus slug was jammed all the way into the coil to the point where I had to pull and turn it with needle nose to re-engage the threads. There was no handle on the focus adjustment, I don't know if this is because it was a Motel set or if it's just missing? I didn't see any signs of color but the signal was very weak. The chassis cleaned up pretty well with a brush and compressed air, the flyback looks good, no drippage of note. If anyone's interested I'll take the camera to work and take pics in it's current state of disrepair. Eric |

How do you get away with all that at work?

If you still have the broken off piece of yoke ferrite, just use some epoxy or superglue to reattach it. And if it's clear epoxy you might be able to fill in the chips on the CRT face. Or use the stuff meant for car windshield chip repair.

My bosses are actually pretty cool, they really don't care as long as i get my work done and don't spend too much time on it. |

The picture is shifted to one side a little but I don't know if this has anything to do with the yoke or if it's just out of adjustment somewhere. I put the thing back together today and was actually able to tune a weak picture using a coat hanger for an antenna, the color works too! |

Ctc 27
RCA was notorious for having good years and bad, obviously more good. The 27 is one of their better efforts during the tube years.
