Amazing what you can get for .99c

http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-Televisi...QQcmdZViewItem

Nothing a gallon of Elmers and a 16GP4 wouldn't fix. Right? By the by does anyone recignize the chaiss in this set? Seller told me it was a 6T ... I know it's not much to go on. When I get it here I can post some better pix. Currently it's about 20 mins away. I'm thinking it's a 1950 or '51 model

Looks like a kcs-47 or 49. ( I have one like it, with doors)

Is that a metal tube in there? is it a 16gp4 or a 19" (probably 19ap4)??

I asked the seller about the screen size top to bottom is 14 1/2" . On the paper inside it lists the 16" tube as a 16GP4 (6T...). The 19" is a 19AP4 (9T...).

Looks like the crt is mounted to the cabinet that must make it difficult to service. Any tricks to make it easier? Why did they come up with the bright idea of putting 16KV on the outside the crt? Seems kinda dangerious. Was it an early form of tv/bug zapper? Did the designers like the sight of a nice blue halo around the crt? Or where they tring to kill off TV techs?

Jack, I hope your's is in better shape! I like wood working!

I have one of these. It's a 6T71, aka The Fairfield. KCS-47A chassis, originally had split-sound, mine has mods for intercarrier. I recapped this beauty after finding it at Goodwill in 1983. Watch out for the fake mica cap across the horizontal stabilizer coil winding, mine went leaky <10k ohms and gave 4X horizontal frequency.

Thanks for the info. So it looks like I'm looking for a Sam's 113-7. Should it have the KCS number printed on the chaiss somewhere? Haven't yet had a chance to pull it a part. Anyone has a 113-7 or just the diagram? Would be happy to cover costs.
Terry
ps Einar72 WELCOME to the group!!

Thank you for the welcome!
I used a copy of Sams, along with Rider's but I'll have to check in a box I haven't moved yet (I'm in the middle of a move) to see what one it was. I once would go to the library and go ga-ga copying all I could find on a set, occasionally even before I had acquired it. I now have a copy of the RCA Service Directory that covers every suffix of this chassis. It, too has gone into hiding due to the move. I'll look at mine this weekend (in the storage unit), but I remember the chassis number stamped on the back of the chassis, Let me know if you can't find what you need! I'll be happy to copy and send what I have. The thrill of bringing one of these up from the dead is so much fun!
BTW - I'm moving in with a wonderful new lady who understands and respects my love of vintage electronics!

Just a few other sets I have restored or plan to, in rough order of acquisition:

12" Motorola roundie - 1983
8" Silvertone roundie canvas portable
Motorola Golden View - 1985
16" Hallicrafters roundie console
Philco Safari, 12" Sparton roundie
RCA 648 PTK projection - 1988
21" RCA metal-cone w/doors - 1989
RCA CT-100 - 1997 & 2001 (basket-case story - more soon)
Dumont 19" roundie - Sherbrooke/RA-109 - 2004

I look forward to many years of tech-talk with all who love old TV and am thrilled to be a (new) part of this great community!

That would be wonderful if you can dig it up! I'm in no rush it's down the line in terms of restoration. But I do like to get all the info together before starting in. I think it sat in a basement that flooded the first four inches of the sides of the cabinet are rotted and one section of the frame is missing. I like woodworking so it's no problem. The good thing is the chaiss is very clean with no rust. The main reason I picked it up is I remember watching a set like it at my grandma houses back in the early 60's. For some reason I remember watching Amos and Andy reruns on it.
By the by if your Motorola is a VT-71 or VT-73 I may have some info for you. If you can use it.

The 6T71 could have one of two chassis.
The the KCS 47, 47A or the KCS 47T, 47AT.
One change is the vert sweep osc & disch. a 6J5 in one and 1/2 6SN7 in the other.
Which do you have?

Perhaps this will help clear up which chaiss it is. It does have a 6J5 up in the top right corner.
