Zenith record player question

I recently bought a Zenith solid state model nps40 record player from 1966 at an estate sale. I had to replace the electrolitics and 3 paper caps in the amp. I also had replace the cartridge as it was bad and clean and lube the changer. It is working great now but there one question I have. It has I think a power resistor on the terminal strip where the power cord connects. The resistor gets very hot while the player is operating. After a while the changer base above it gets warm. Is it supposted to do that or should it be replaced? The player works fine.
John.
