Admiral TV/Audio Console In Thrift

I don't know nothing about TV/audio combo consoles, but this is in a thrift local to me near Charlotte, NC for $35 IIRC. Saw it a day ago -- been there for about three days.

The record changer/radio combo sets on a spring-loaded board that leaps out at you when you pull it. I think there is a speaker underneath the TV -- that grill-cloth covered portion does not open.

Took a couple of cell phone pics. If any interest let me know and I will try to help out if I can. She who must be obeyed might keel over unless I cover it up in the garage.

IF this should have been posted in $ & Sense, I apologize.

I don't like to see anything of that vintage go to the dump...but they're asking at least $30 too much.

I don't think that is too bad of a price....these kinds of things hardly turn up around here for any price!

I gotta stand by my assessment, this set is in awful shape and a couple years too late to be truly "collectible."

Hard to tell from the photos, but it sure looks like those components don't belong in that cabinet. The TV looks like a stand-alone set that's a bit too modern to go with that turntable. It also looks like it is just set on a shelf and not built in to the cabinet. The turntable could be original. The visible brackets seem wrong, but it could be that the fold-down door for the phono is loose in the bottom.

I don't agree with the last post. To me the brightwork or faceplates of the two main components look as if they are meant to be together. I do think the screen looks a bit odd....

I stand corrected. What's the date on the Sams?

December 1950

And here's a later model (5-1953) for comparison.

Adam: That is the one!

When I saw it the drawer under the TT/tuner combo was not in place, but I think in the bin at bottom-left, detached.

Don't know if it made it through this weekend. Too much going on around here!

Newbie here. I have been looking for a set almost identical to that one in NC. My Dad bought us an Admiral 30x15 and the only difference is a 12 inch screen on the TV; otherwise, the cabinet, and phono are identical. I think it was sold in 1949 for $299. I would love to find one of them.

BTW, there was a phono section just like the one in this set on ebay two weeks ago. It went for $10 with $25 (I think) shipping.

I agree, the one in the thrift shop looks pretty shot, but a great find nonetheless for someone who needs parts or patterns for grille cloth etc.

Andy
