Looks pretty good. You might want to try some Howard's Restore-A-Finish on that. It might help bring the finish back to life. I've also heard good reports of using Gojo hand cleaner (the jelly kerosene like stuff, no pumice or orange) on the wood. I've actually done it on my Philco TV to remove the heavy smoke residue. It works well without damaging the finish.

I'm also useless with woodworking so I sympathize. Some of the guys over at antiqueradios.org have done extensive refinishing and cabinet rebuilding, perhaps someone there can help out with what this one should look like.
