RCA roundie on ebay low starting bid

Nice low starting bid something that's not too common on ebay, low starting bids on vintage tvs that is.

http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-RCA-VICT...item2a0cc163b9

Anyone know what chassis this is?
I wanted to get in on the bidding until I punched the zip code in Mapquest. When I saw 6 hours 1 way this tv was out of the question for me.

I agree. This may have been the cheapest RCA color set that year. I don't remember seeing one with a matching stand like this.

Its a CTC12A,B

My RCA book of all roundys from "55 to "66, CTC2B thru CTC20 says the name
"TRENT" was applied to the CTC12A & CTC12B. My 21CT55 has no RCA name.

Am I the only one who thinks that cheap "woodgrain" covering on the cabinet looks crappy? If I got that set, I'd be tempted to peel it off and paint the metal cabinet like the one on my CTC-11.

I think the wood grain looks good, I have a zenith like that, just another vintage look.

Well, I suppose they had to find some way to cut costs for the less expensive models. Maybe I rode in too many tacky cars with "wood" side panels.

What's the deal with those, anyway? People keep saying they are terrible, but I don't get what all the fuss is about. I mean, just replace it with a 6U8 and be done...

Yup. And 6EA8 will also sub. But 'back in the day' when high-volume shops had to replace 'em by the cartload daily, subbing wasn't really an option.

When the guy from the local distributor came by every week we would order 6gh8's by the 100's they were a real good money maker along with it's later brother the 5gh8. Those days are long gone.
