I've seen early transistors before but they looked more like these. I guess they were European or Japanese.

Those are genuine Philco transistors. They made their own at the time.
I have one of those heavy front, early 60's GE AM-FM portables, that uses Philco transistors in the IF stages. They must've been better.
I think their semiconductor plant was phased out, when Ford started restructuring.
