When it comes to name brand axials, I like Illinois Capacitors from Allied Electronics. For example, 0.047 @ 630 volts are $0.38 in quantities of 100.

I work in the electronics industry. I have heard a story about one brand of electrolytics that was used in the '80, if I recall. I don't remember the brand.
They became know for early failures. They were made by a new company at the time and the people that started the company had copied the formula for the fluid from the company they used to work for. Problem was they didn't know about a minor ingredient and so the caps didn't last long.
